Do you pay separately for the permanent visa
No. The Cost section of the subclass 820 page says the costs below cover this Temporary visa and the Permanent Partner visa (subclass 801). The Cost section of the subclass 309 page says the costs below cover this Temporary visa and the Permanent Partner visa (subclass 100).
Each permanent page says the same thing in its own words. The Cost section of the subclass 801 page says you paid for this visa when you applied for the temporary and permanent Partner visas, and that you might have to pay other costs for health or police checks. The Cost section of the subclass 100 page repeats both lines.
What a Prospective Marriage visa costs you later
The Cost section of the subclass 300 page says you will also have to pay a fee for your Partner visa (subclasses 820 and 801). That page adds that you pay less for this visa if you marry your prospective spouse and apply for the Partner visa before your Prospective Marriage visa ends. The pricing table shows the corresponding row as Partner visa (subclass 820/801) - Application by Prospective Marriage visa holder, at AUD1,955.00 for the base application charge, AUD980.00 for an additional applicant 18 and over, and AUD485.00 for an additional applicant under 18.
The ceased Prospective Marriage visa row
The subclass 820 page has a section headed Former Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300) holders. It says that if the main applicant previously held a Prospective Marriage visa but did not apply for the subclass 820 and 801 visas before that visa expired, a separate fee generally applies to them if they entered Australia as the holder of a Prospective Marriage (subclass 300) visa, and they do not hold a Substantive visa. The pricing table has a row named Partner visa (subclass 820/801) - Ceased Prospective Marriage visa, at AUD2,475.00 for the base application charge, AUD1,235.00 for an additional applicant 18 and over, and AUD625.00 for an additional applicant under 18.
The table also carries a Partner visa (subclass 820/801) - Transitional visa holder row, at AUD700.00, AUD350.00 and AUD180.00.
The subclass 820 page also says there is a fee for each family member that applies for the visa with you.
Other costs the pages name
The subclass 820 page says you might also have to pay other costs for health checks, police certificates and biometrics. The subclass 309 page says the same, and the subclass 300 page says the same in its Cost section.
Both the subclass 820 and subclass 309 pages say the department cannot process your application if you do not pay the correct visa application charge. The subclass 300 page says the same.
Working out your own figure
The subclass 820 page says to work out how much your visa will cost, including adding additional family members, use the Visa pricing estimator. The subclass 309 page says the same, and the subclass 300 page says the same. Each of those pages adds that the estimator does not take into account the costs for health checks, police certificates and biometrics.
The Pacific Island and Timor-Leste concession
From 1 July 2026, a lower visa cost applies to eligible Pacific Island and Timor-Leste citizens who lodge a valid visa application, and family members are also eligible for the lower cost, based on the passport of the primary applicant. The Cost concession for eligible Pacific Island and Timor-Leste Partner visa applicants section appears on the subclass 820, subclass 309 and subclass 300 pages; the department says it will charge eligible applicants the lower visa application cost during the application process in ImmiAccount.
If a provisional application is refused
The subclass 309 page says under Visa outcome that it will not refund the application fee if it refuses your application. The same section says that if the visa is refused, the department will tell you why it refused the visa and whether you have a right to a review of the decision.
